On Thursday 27th May the historic spire of the A - listed Church took the full force of a violent lightning strike, the blast and huge rumble of thunder was heard throughout Broughty Ferry, Dundee and North Fife. The spire sustained extensive damage with roof tiles, timber and masonry raining to the ground. The initial assessment by the City Engineer has determined that the structure of the spire is still sound – loose tiles and bits of masonry have been taken off and the church site has been cordoned off with fencing and has been designated a danger zone for the time being. Stone Technical Services was appointed to carry out significant work at the Royal Grammar School in Guildford, Surrey. As well as completing the refurbishment of the chimney stack on the Grade 1 listed building, which dates back to the 1500s, Stone carried out general restoration work including the repair of the original town boundary wall which will involve lime mortar pointing using specially-produced bricks.
