Royal Grammer School, Surrey
Stone Technical Services was appointed to carry out significant work at the Royal Grammar School in Guildford, Surrey. As well as completing the refurbishment of the chimney stack on the Grade 1 listed building, which dates back to the 1500s, Stone carried out general restoration work including the repair of the original town boundary wall which will involve lime mortar pointing using specially-produced bricks.
Stone worked on the project, worth around £55,000 to the company, with conservation specialists from Guildford Council.
Managing director, Dave Stone said: “Our Southern office, which we opened last year, is really enhancing the business and is allowing to grow the business further. Both of these new contracts, which are incredibly significant to Stone, are thanks to the team in the South.
“The work we have been engaged to carry out on this unusual, prestigious building is both complex and sensitive due to the way in which each is used. There is a very real need for us to complete the important projects sensitively without disturbing daily life at the school but thanks to our skilled team and working practices we are already underway with the projects to preserve the buildings for future use.”
